My latest laptop, HP Compaq nc6000 is awaiting a new system installation, due to overclocking. Agere Systems AC'97 Modem driver (980kb) reported an installation failure, then I downloaded Conexant CX20468-31 AC97 Audio Driver EQ (316kb and 960kb, both released at March 31, 2005) and installed these three drivers/updates. Meanwhile, ADI Soundmax Audio Driver was activated automatically, but all installations were successful finally. After a system restart, defragmentation and registry cleaning everything seemed perfect.
But while MS Windows Scan Disk was executing, the screen suddenly splashed and three penetrating sirens were yelling - therefore I forced the system shut down by the switch off button.
The boot process is to be as follows: ROM BIOS executes the logo, splash screen, MSWindows logo, but now the Welcome to Windows log in
screen is no longer displayed.
Neither safe mode nor network access mode can start up now, although HP's troubleshooting pages suggest that the hard disk is not destroyed yet.
